Reddit - Social News Site

Reddit is a social news site with the slogan: Voices from the Internet ahead of news. Its owner is Condé Nast Digital (a subsidiary of Advance Magazine Publishers Inc). Users (also called redditors) can browse and submit links to content on the Internet or post their own original or user-submitted posts.

Other users can vote for the posted links as high or low, and the links with outstanding scores will be placed on the front page. In addition, users can comment on the posted links and reply to other commenters, thus forming an online community. Reddit users can create their own topic sections, which are both informal like Reddit user submissions and formal like communities for people who post links and comments.

Features of Reddit:

Reddit has forums where users discuss submissions and vote up or down on other people's comments. When a comment is voted down enough times, it is hidden by default. The default preference cutoff for comments is -4 or less, which means they have received at least five more negative votes than positive votes.

Reddit sets a default sorting of comments, with this method, the so-called "best comments" are shown at the top (defined by the Reddit algorithm which has a better positive/negative impact, but still better than total votes). Users are given the option to change this in their preference, as well as for each individual comment page. The submissions that appear on the front page are determined by the age of the submission, the positive/negative feedback ratio and the total number of votes.

On October 31, 2014, Reddit officially launched the crowdfunding platform Redditmade. Like other crowdfunding platforms, users can provide a variety of projects on Redditmade, whether it is a pack of stickers or $100 headphones. The difference is that Redditmade is more like a sales channel than a crowdfunding platform. However, Reddit is still in the public beta stage, and there may be changes in the future. In the Redditmade project, like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, users need to raise the set target amount within 30 days, and there is also a feedback and comment area.
