OCS Certification - Organic Content Standard Certification objects: Non-food products produced with approved organic raw materials. Certification scope: OCS product production management Product requirements: Contain more than 5% of raw materials that meet recognized organic standards
GOTS Certification - Global Organic Textile Standard The main definition of the Global Organic Textile Standard ( GOTS ) is the requirements to ensure the organic status of textiles, including the harvesting of raw materials, environmentally and socially responsible production, and labeling to ensure consumers have information about the product. This standard sets out relevant provisions for the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, import, export and distribution of organic textiles. The final products may include, but are not limited to: fiber products, yarns, fabrics, clothing and home textiles. This standard only focuses on mandatory requirements. Certification object: Textiles produced with organic natural fibers Certification scope: GOTs product production management, environmental protection, and social responsibility Product requirements: Contains 70% organic natural fibers, no blending allowed, contains a maximum of 10% synthetic or recycled fibers (sports equipment can contain a maximum of 25% synthetic or recycled fibers), and no genetically modified fibers.
GRS Certification - Global Recycling Standard for Textiles and Clothing In response to strong demand for eco-friendly textiles from brands and retailers, the Alliance for Sustainable Development Certification has developed the first Global Recycled Standard (GRS) for Textiles and Apparel to ensure greater sourcing transparency through the production supply chain. The new GRS is a three-level system, divided into copper standard, silver standard and gold standard according to the recycling standards of each product. The highest gold standard requires products to contain 95-100 % recycled materials, silver standard products contain 70-95% recycled materials, and copper standard GRS logo products need to contain no less than 30% recycled materials. All compliant products must display the recycled content percentage and will carry the appropriate gold, silver or bronze GRS logo. Mark Prosé , head of the management alliance certification agency , said that the development of global recycling standards is a response to the growing demand of the textile industry to support them in producing environmentally friendly products with recycled materials. The backbone of this standard is the track - and - trace system, which supports the requirements of textile factories and brands for recycled product ingredients. The alliance said it would use a proof-of-transaction system for track - and - trace, instead of a virtual online system, because not everyone in the supply chain would be willing to expose costs or any confidentiality. According to GRS, the recycled materials used in textiles will be based on the standards that have been announced by the Scientific Certification System (SCS) . In addition to raw material specifications, this standard also includes environmental processing standards. It includes strict requirements for wastewater treatment and chemical use ( according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Oeko-Tex100 . Social responsibility factors are also included in the GRS , which aims to ensure the health and safety of workers, support workers' labor rights, and comply with the standards set by the International Labor Organization (ILO) .
RDS Humane Responsible Down Standard RDS Responsible Down Standard The Humane Down Standard is a certification program developed by The North Face, a subsidiary of VF Group , in collaboration with the Textile Exchange and Control Union Certifications, a third-party certification body in the Netherlands. The program was officially launched in January 2014 , and the first certificate was issued in June of the same year . The certification body and leading suppliers Allied Feather & Down and Downlite jointly analyze and verify that every link in the down supply chain meets the standards. The feathers of geese, ducks and other poultry used in the food industry are one of the best quality and best performance down clothing materials. However, due to issues such as live plucking and forced feeding, they have attracted the attention of animal protection groups. The Humane Down Standard is designed to evaluate and track the source of raw materials for any down-based product, creating a production and marketing supervision chain from goslings to end products. Brands and retailers that have recently committed to adopting the Humane Down Standard include: Eddie Bauer , H&M , Helly Hansen , Mammut , Marmot and Outdoor Research . In addition, the revised version of the Humane Down Standard 2.0 (RDS2.0) was released and public feedback was sought. The revised standard includes: providing the ParentFarm model for companies that want to go beyond all their direct sources, eliminating any down produced by verified and non-verified waterfowl in parallel on the farm, strengthening animal welfare standards and audit requirements, and improving label issuance standards ( only issuing verification labels for products that use 100% humane down standards ) . |
