CmiA Cotton

Cotton produced by CMIA-certified cotton companies and the smallholder farmers they represent. It cannot be substituted with any other cotton.

CmiA Organic Cotton

This standard complements the existing ecological standard EC No. 834/2007 and the NOP guidelines and adds the social and economic criteria of CmiA.

CmiA Products

Any purchase or sale of cotton or cotton containing products (after trader level) under CmiA claims.

CmiA-BCI cotton

CmiA or SCS (Sustainable Cotton Standard) cotton, sold to the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) supply chain, may also appear under the label “CmiA-BC” or “AbTF-BCI” (no longer used).

CmiA Standard

The CmiA standard's criteria include ecological, social and economic aspects of cotton production and processing. A two-stage list of criteria ensures that participating cotton farmers successively adapt their farming methods - and cotton producers' processing of raw materials - to improve ecological, economic and social sustainability.

CmiA Cotton Producers

Another term referring to CmiA certified cotton companies, which include gynaecological farmers and related smallholders that meet CmiA standards.

CMIA nominates cotton trader

CmiA nominated cotton traders have signed a contract with Atakora enabling them to buy CmiA cotton from CmiA certified cotton companies and sell the cotton under the “CmiA” label to CmiA registered spinners, or under the CmiA-BCI label to BCI registered spinners.

CmiA registered textile factory

Spinning mills registered with CmiA will be allowed to buy CmiA cotton, process CmiA cotton, label their yarn as CmiA and sell it to the next level of the supply chain. Requirements that spinning mills must meet to successfully register with CmiA.

CMIA registered yarn trader/dyeing company

A yarn trader or dye company registered with CmiA, who has registered with CmiA, may be allowed to buy and sell yarn with the CmiA label to the next level in the supply chain. Yarn trading/dye companies must meet the requirements to successfully register with CmiA.

CmiA registered fabric manufacturer

Fabric producers who have registered with CmiA will be allowed to buy CmiA-labelled yarn, produce CmiA-labelled fabric and sell it to the next level of the supply chain. There are some requirements that fabric producers who have to meet to successfully register with CmiA.

CmiA registered fabric trader

Fabric traders registered with CmiA have registered with CmiA and are allowed to buy and sell fabrics with the CmiA label. There are few requirements that must be met to successfully register with CmiA.

CmiA registered ready-made garment (RMG) producer (supplier or manufacturer)

A CmiA registered ready-made garment producer has registered with CmiA and will be allowed to purchase CmiA labelled yarn and fabric, perform the final process of the CmiA labelled finished product and sell it to retailers/brands. There are few requirements that a ready-made garment producer must meet in order to successfully register with CmiA.
