eBay's latest review policy

eBay's latest review policy

Because eBay is a sufficiently powerful and trusted platform, more and more sellers and buyers are willing to join the eBay platform, and eBay's evaluation system plays an important role in maintaining the stable operation of the platform. Therefore, the management of the evaluation system has become an indispensable task.

In review management, please follow the following eBay guidelines:

1. Do not ask for reviews

Buyers cannot threaten sellers to gain additional benefits by leaving low scores or bad reviews

Sellers cannot offer benefits to buyers by asking them to leave positive reviews or high ratings or to modify a review.

Buyers cannot threaten sellers with giving them bad reviews to get them to provide services that are not part of the product or to buy the product at a lower price. Of course, they cannot use the same method to force sellers to accept returns/refunds.

Sellers cannot force buyers to leave positive reviews by sending them products they purchased or accepting returns for refunds. Sellers also cannot offer buyers extra money or other benefits in exchange for positive reviews.

Of course, once a transaction is concluded, the seller can invite the buyer to leave a positive review, or if the parties resolve the issues that occurred during the transaction, the seller can invite the buyer to modify a negative review.

Buyers

Buyers cannot obtain the following benefits from sellers by giving bad reviews or low ratings:

Additional products or services or prices

Refunds and returns not included in the original listing

If a buyer contacts a seller because of a transaction problem, the seller needs to do their best to help the buyer solve the problem. Once the problem is solved, the seller can invite the buyer to leave a good review or a high DSR score, or modify the previous medium or bad review.

We hope that all sellers and buyers can abide by the review management policy. Once a violation of the review management policy occurs, we will take corresponding measures, such as restricting your purchasing or selling qualifications, or even suspending your account.

Violation Cases

The following cases are not allowed

Blackmail review case

Buyers cannot threaten sellers to provide the following services by leaving negative reviews or giving low DSR scores:

Sellers accept returns that are not covered by the listing terms or eBay Money Back Guarantee and pay for return shipping.

Sellers offer full or partial refunds for items that are not covered by the listing terms or the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

Reduce shipping and handling costs.

Sending additional items that are not part of the listing. (This does not include situations where a buyer requests an exchange for an item that does not match the original item description.

Sellers cannot:

Sellers cannot ship products or refund buyers only if they leave positive reviews or have high DSRs.

Inform the buyer that warranty service will only be provided if the buyer leaves a positive review or a high score.

Sellers cannot offer buyers monetary compensation, such as a partial refund, in exchange for positive reviews or to modify negative reviews.

2. Do not manipulate reviews

Our rating system gives buyers and sellers the opportunity to evaluate and review each other after each transaction.

This system allows eBay to maintain a trusted identity, so we have rules in place to ensure that reviews cannot be unfairly manipulated. You can find more details in the full policy guide below.

Frequently asked questions

What is the review manipulation policy?

Any attempt to increase your review score or lower the review score of other members is considered review manipulation. It can take many forms, such as brushing good reviews, buying and selling reviews, and giving unfairly low scores.

What should I do when someone tries to manipulate reviews?

Let us know by reporting the member's username, a brief description of the situation, and the item number.

Manipulation of Reviews Policy Overview

eBay's rating system allows members to leave reviews for each other after a transaction. This is a way for both buyers and sellers to gain a good reputation on the platform.

To ensure that this system runs smoothly and fairly, we have adopted rules to regulate its use. Of course, we do not allow any way of manipulating reviews or leaving low scores (see our guidelines for examples and more information).

Make sure you follow this rule. If you don't, your review may be removed and we may take a range of warning actions against you, including restricting your buying and selling rights or even suspending your account.

Guiding Cases

Permitted Behavior

If a product's name contains the word "review", it is allowed to appear in the title.

Leave a review after receiving reviews from other members

Unacceptable behavior

By exchanging reviews, the purpose of improving review scores, obtaining website rights, or improving reputation is achieved

Include the word "reviews" or other terms related to eBay reviews in the title (unless the word is used to describe the item for sale)

Manipulate another account's rating by making repeated purchases and leaving low ratings

Buy and sell evaluation

Collaborate with other accounts or register multiple accounts to artificially increase reviews

Report Violations

These are to help us make reviews and seller ratings as fair and honest as possible. If you see something that violates our policies, please report it to us. Be sure to include the username, item ID, and a brief summary of the situation if possible.

3. Removal of review policy

In most cases, reviews cannot be changed or removed unless they violate our review policy. However, if you feel a review is false or unfair, you can request a review revision.

You are a seller

If a buyer leaves a neutral or negative review, we encourage you to contact the buyer to find an acceptable solution. Please remember that we do not allow coercion or bullying of buyers to get better ratings. For more information, please see our Blackmail Review Policy.

You have 30 days to submit a request to revise your review. You can send five revised reviews for every 1,000 reviews you receive. The buyer has 10 days to respond, either accepting and revising the review or rejecting and stating the reason.

Report Buyer

If a review was left in error, either the seller or the buyer can reply to the review or leave a follow-up review. Remember, leaving a follow-up review will not change the seller's rating.

In some cases, members may lose the right to leave reviews. For example, if a seller opens a non-payment dispute, the buyer cannot leave a review for that item.
