Which textile certifications are suitable for the European market?

Nowadays, many textile companies choose third-party testing or certification to prove the quality or functional characteristics of textiles. Let's take a look at which textile certifications are recognized by the European market?

Eco-textile certification STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®

When faced with the question of which textile certifications are suitable for the European market, the first thing that comes to mind is OEKO-TEX®'s ecological textile certification STANDARD 100, which is an independent certification for hazardous substance testing of textiles. It complies with the EU REACH Regulation Annex VXII's provisions on textiles. Its testing items include more than 300 items such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), organotin compounds, chlorinated phenols, phthalates (plasticizers), PFOS, PFOA, surface lubricant residues (APEO), etc., to ensure the safety of products for health and the environment. Therefore, OEKO-TEX® certification can be said to be a stepping stone for products to enter the European market.

Applicable products: Textiles, accessories and products at all levels of production, including textile and non-textile components, as well as recycled materials. It also applies to mattresses, feathers and down, foam, interior decoration materials and other materials with similar properties.

GREEN BUTTON certification

Green Button is a sustainable textile badge launched by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It sets binding requirements for protecting humans and the environment during the production of textiles. Its uniqueness lies in that in addition to products, the company as a whole must also be subject to supervision and inspection. This is also the certification that will come to mind when asked which textile certifications are suitable for the European market. Companies that wish to obtain Green Button certification must meet 46 strict social and environmental standards, including 20 corporate standards and 26 social and environmental product standards.

Applicable products: All textile products, excluding leather products, toys and fabrics:

Clothing: women's wear, men's wear, children's wear, day wear and evening wear, sportswear and functional clothing, outdoor textiles, socks and socks, etc.

Household textiles: bedding, quilts, towels, tablecloths and kitchen textiles, curtains, decorative materials and furniture soft furnishings, carpets, etc.

Textile accessories: headwear, scarves, shawls, gloves, bags, backpacks, etc.
