What is IEN?

IEN (Import Entry Number) refers to the import declaration code, abbreviated as IEN. When goods are imported into the EU, they are assigned an Import Entry Number (IEN) by the EU customs authorities. When your shipment enters the EU and is declared to the customs authorities, the shipment will be assigned an IEN. The IEN is issued to the customs declarant, which may be your logistics agent or freight forwarder.

What are some common problems with IEN?

Q: What should I do if I cannot obtain the Import Entry Number (IEN) for some or all of my shipments?

A: If you do not have an IEN for your shipment, you do not need to enter one. If you want to notify us, you should confirm that you do not have an IEN in the Shipment Queue page in Seller Central. For more information, see the question "Where do I enter the Import Entry Number (IEN)?" on the Help page link at the bottom.

Q: What does an Import Entry Number (IEN) look like?

A: The EU IEN does not follow a standard format of numbers and/or letters. The IEN may be issued by different EU customs agencies, depending on the method of import. On customs documents, the IEN may be identified as an "Import Number", "Entry Number" or "Customs Entry Number".

Q: Where do I enter my Import Entry Number (IEN)?

A: Starting April 1, 2019, you will be able to enter an IEN for shipments that have been created but are not in a "Closed," "Deleted," or "Cancelled" status and for shipments created on or after April 1, 2019. You do not need to provide details for shipments that are in a "Closed," "Deleted," or "Cancelled" status and for shipments created before April 1, 2019. On the Shipment Queue page in Seller Central, you will see an IEN status next to each FHDDS-compliant shipment indicating whether the IEN entry is complete, incomplete, or closed for editing (see FAQ - "How long does it take to enter an Import Entry Number (IEN)"). You can click the IEN status to open a text box where you can enter an IEN for the shipment or an IEN indicating that you do not have a shipment. Once you save your IEN entry, the IEN status will show Complete.

From the outbreak of the epidemic last year to now, the number of people doing business overseas, engaging in cross-border e-commerce, and foreign trade has increased significantly.

The scale of China's cross-border e-commerce transactions has continued to rise in recent years. Data from the General Administration of Customs show that in 2020, my country's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports reached 1.69 trillion yuan, an increase of 31.1%, of which exports reached 1.12 trillion yuan, an increase of 40.1%.

In this process, logistics and payment play a crucial role. According to relevant cross-border e-commerce merchant survey feedback, the speed of withdrawal is very important. In the past, the overall collection cycle was at least 3 to 4 months. If the withdrawal is late by one day, the impact on the seller may be "immeasurable."

Aiming at the pain point of sellers’ difficulty and slow withdrawal, Airwallex stands out and realizes cross-border payment and withdrawal with a low fee rate of 0, and the payment is received quickly within the same day. Airwallex payment account registration portal: https://hub6.cn/OpLHEx
