iDEAL - Online Payments in the Netherlands

What is iDEAL?

iDEAL is the largest online payment brand in the Netherlands and the most popular payment method in the Netherlands. More than half of e-commerce transactions are completed through this payment method. Originally iDEAL was designed for online store payments, but now it is increasingly used to pay energy bills, donate to charities, increase call points, pay local taxes, traffic fines, etc.

Advantages of iDEAL:

1. Security: iDEAL customers pay through the familiar online banking environment;

2. Simple: iDEAL visitors do not need to register, download files or create accounts;

3. Immediately available: Applicable to every bank account holder in the Netherlands;

4. Fast: iDEAL enters all payment details for visitors and notifies them immediately that the payment has been successful;

5. Insight: Customers constantly check their payments; payments are processed instantly and displayed in their account overview.

How can merchants use iDEAL?

1. You can use iDEAL to pay in online stores. No registration, file download or account creation is required. If the customer has an online banking account with any of ABNAMRO, Fortis, Postbank, Rabobank, ING Bank or SNS Bank, they can pay directly to iDEAL using online banking.

2. You can send business iDEAL payment requests to your customers. The link can be sent through various channels, including email, SMS or WhatsApp.

3. Your customers can also pay using iDEALQR, these QR codes can be displayed offline (on a paper invoice, on a sales receipt, in a shop window, etc.) or online (in your online shop, on a screen, at a payment bar, etc.), and then scan the iDEALQR code to pay using their own bank's mobile banking app or the iDEAL app.
