In 1955, the company's founder, Nathan Swartz, acquired Abington Shoe Company, and in the following 10 years, it grew into the most successful shoe company in the United States. In the 1960s, they adopted a unique shoemaking technology to produce the world's first pair of shoes with no stitching on the sole and upper.
