What impact does eBay's return policy have on Chinese sellers?

eBay evaluates seller performance based on two metrics: a simplified bad transaction rate and on-time delivery. The simplified bad transaction rate metric includes transactions canceled by sellers and disputes that sellers fail to resolve.

Last month, eBay announced that starting May 1, 2016, sellers with excellent ratings must provide a refund policy of at least 30 days when listing items in order to receive discounts and badges for super excellent rating items, including: a "Excellent Rated Seller" (TRS) seal next to the listing, and a 20% discount on the final transaction fee for qualified listings. The processing requirements (processing on the same day or within one day) still apply.

Now, your overall return rate is included in the Seller Score so that you can better manage and minimize your return rate. If you successfully resolve a return with a buyer (without eBay's involvement and assistance), it will not be counted as a bad transaction.

How do eBay sellers deal with this?

When a buyer sends a return, the seller can only refund or return the goods, and the seller often has to bear the return shipping costs. Usually, the seller has the following options:

1. For partial refunds, you need to discuss with the customer and generally there will be no negative reviews.

2. Full refund, buyers do not need to return the goods. If you encounter a professional scammer, block him/her immediately.

3. If the buyer returns the goods, the seller will receive a bad review and bear the return shipping costs, and may not even receive the goods.

Regarding eBay shipping, it depends on the reason the customer chooses for the return. If the reason is because the customer does not like the product, the buyer is responsible for the shipping. If the product does not match the description, is damaged, or is due to the seller, the eBay seller is responsible for the shipping. If the value of the item is high, the return will be given a tracking number. If the value of the item is not high, the eBay seller will choose not to take the product and directly refund the buyer. In many cases, the shipping cost is higher than the price of the product.
