Hunan: A strong cross-border e-commerce atmosphere, eBay sellers perform well

Hunan Province is an important engine of economic growth in the central region. After years of accumulation, it has formed export-oriented industrial clusters such as electromechanical, chemical, steel, and high-tech products, providing a first-mover advantage for local enterprises to find new growth opportunities through cross-border e-commerce retail export models. In 2017, the e-commerce transaction volume in Hunan Province was 835.686 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 37.53%. Among them, online retail sales (B2C, C2C) were 155.643 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 40.78%. It is estimated that by 2020, the scale of Hunan's cross-border e-commerce will exceed 10 billion US dollars. [Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce, "2017 Hunan Province E-commerce Report"]

Hunan Province's continuously optimized cross-border e-commerce industry environment, the company's superior product resources, rich talent pool, and Hunan sellers' courageous, pioneering, and innovative entrepreneurial spirit have promoted the rapid development of their cross-border export business on the eBay platform. According to eBay's internal data in 2018:

Industrial products, auto parts, home gardening, clothing, shoes, hats and accessories, and health and beauty products are the top five categories with the highest sales of Hunan sellers. Among them, the sales of clothing, shoes, hats and accessories increased rapidly year-on-year, reaching 220%.

The top five export destinations for Hunan sellers are the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany and Canada. Among them, the United Kingdom has rapidly developed into a destination market with the highest year-on-year sales growth of Hunan sellers at a growth rate of 130%.

eBay uses the cooperation with China (Changsha) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone as a model to further expand the cross-border e-commerce potential of second- and third-tier cities in central and western China

As the capital of Hunan Province, Changsha has always been at the forefront of the development of Hunan's cross-border e-commerce industry, and has gradually developed into a new generation of cross-border e-commerce operation center. In August 2018, Changsha was approved as a national cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone; in November of the same year, in order to comprehensively promote the construction of the China (Changsha) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone, the State Council established the Changsha Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone Implementation Plan, which brought new power to the development of cross-border e-commerce in Changsha and Hunan Province.

The Changsha High-tech Zone Management Committee is committed to promoting the development of the China (Changsha) Cross-border E-commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone, helping local companies to expand their cross-border e-commerce business, promoting the agglomeration and ecological formation of the cross-border e-commerce industry in Hunan Province, and becoming a model of government-enterprise cooperation in the "eBay Top 100 Industrial Belts Plan".

eBay officially announced the "Top 100 Industrial Belts Plan" in July 2018, aiming to help regional enterprise clusters with advantageous manufacturing resources provide new channels to open up overseas markets through active cooperation with local governments. In 2019, in addition to the eastern coastal areas where the cross-border e-commerce industry is relatively mature, the "eBay Top 100 Industrial Belts Plan" will actively explore second- and third-tier cities in the central and western regions, work with local governments to activate local industrial resources, provide more enterprises with new directions for cross-border e-commerce retail exports, and bring new growth points for local economic development.
