HiggFEM has been revamped! What are the changes?

HiggIndex is a learning tool for small and large organizations to identify challenges and achieve continuous improvement.

The Higg Index is an online self-assessment tool developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition to measure the environmental and social impact of the apparel, footwear and textile industries. The Higg Index is the standard tool used by more than 8,000 manufacturers and 150 brands worldwide for sustainability reporting. It eliminates the need for repeated self-assessments and helps identify opportunities to improve performance.

Note: If you are not in the apparel, footwear or textile industry, you may still be asked to complete the Higg Index. Some companies are using the Higg Index with factories across a variety of industries because the tool comprehensively measures environmental and social impacts at the factory level.

Higg is a brand-backed sustainability tool open to all industries, with the following goals:

1. Understand and quantify the sustainability impact of apparel and footwear products;

2. Dramatically reduce redundant sustainability measurements in the apparel and footwear industry;

3. Drive business value by reducing risk and uncovering efficiencies;

4. Establish common communication channels with stakeholders on sustainability;

HiggFEM Important Timelines in 2021

1) Before April 30, 2021, factories that have conducted self-assessment or verification in the previous year need to post their own FEM self-assessment module (there is no restriction for new factories: factories that have not conducted FEM self-assessment or verification before), and they can withdraw the posting status indefinitely between January 1 and April 30 (that is, convert the self-assessment form status between ASC-ASI);

2) October 31, 2021 is the purchase deadline for FEM and vFEM modules;

3) After April 30, 2021, all factories will only have one chance to post;

4) December 31, 2021 is the submission deadline for vFEM.

Important changes in the HiggFEM revision:

Content change: SAC has released a new version of HowtoHiggGuide, which I will introduce in detail later.

Language support: In 2021, HiggFEM will support Bengali, English, Simplified Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, and more.

Fee changes: The module fees for HiggFEM and FSLM have increased in 2021, but there are currently discounts available.

Rule change: In the 2021 FEM verification, the factory must complete 100% of the FEM module before posting.
